Up Sandy Lane

I won't repeat the dirty schoolboy joke which gave me the idea for the title of this effort!

It has nothing to do with the fact that I'm using Firefox, either!

Gron's Stone

Another picture illustrating the Mabinogion story mentioned in my 'Welsh Legend' picture.

Girl and Rooster

Dunno what possessed me to do a picture like this. It's charming and quaint, I suppose...

Cornish Quoits

In Cornwall  Neolithic burial chambers or cromleches are for some reason called 'quoits'.
Here are four of them. Apart from the Zennor quoit, all within easy reach of Penzance.

Broken Staues on the Shore

The Wallace Stevens quote above is only a very small part of a much longer poem. But this extract is almost a complete Haiku in itself.

I love Steven's poetry. If I could write like him, I wouldn't be farting about on here!

Welsh Legend

The idea for this picture came from the fourth story (or as the Welsh would have it - branch) of the Mabinogion  It is a story featuring, wizards, witches, women created from flowers and then turned into owls (the name Blodeuwedd means owl-face), infidelity, murder, rape and ressurection, and lots more.

If you can't read Welsh, or can't stand Lady Charlotte Guest's translation, all four of the Mabinogion's branches have been brilliantly retold by Evangeline Walton (look her up on Wikki), and this story in particular is the basis for Alan Garner's book : The Owl Service.

Pictures of people I Admire

BOB DYLAN

The Man himself.

In the mid 60's, us lads wanted to be the British Bob Dylan (who people in my circle called 'The Bard'), and the girls wanted to be Joan Baez. so we all brought ourselves guitars, and did our best to emulate our heroes and heroines.

Rather sad and silly you may think - and you would be right. But having said this,  can you  imagine members of today's youth (whom I must admit are much smarter than we were) wanting to be a British Justin Bieber? Mind you, if Bieber did an album of Dylan songs, then I might become a 'Belieber'!

As for Donovan, who was at the time criticized for copying Dylan, the only thing he really had in common with the Bard was the harmonica rack. Donovan was in Faeryland, whilst Dylan's songs and poems were rooted in nitty-gritty reality.

That's my opinion, anyway - for what it's worth

ALLEN GINSBERG

I saw the best minds of my generation moronically reading kindles on busses and train, and listening to Justin Bieber songs. And I thought if they are the best minds of our generation - then God help humanity!

Painted in acrylics.

ROBERT JOHNSON

This man influenced so many of our Rock musicians including Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton (Crossroads is a Robert Johnson song).
It is said he died by being poisoned by the husband of a woman Robert was having an affair with.
No-one knows where his grave is, so perhaps he's working in a 7/11 somewhere with Elvis!
Pained in acrylics.

OZZY OSBOURNE

Here he is - the Prince of Darkness.

One thing I left out of this picture was Ozzy's 'pet shoe'.
In the early 60's Ozzy could be seen wandering about Birmingham dragging behind him a shoe on the end of a piece of string, and when asked what he was doing would say 'I'm taking my pet shoe for a walk'.

I once tweeted Ozzy's Twitter account asking how his pet shoe was doing. Needless to say, I did not get a reply!

Corbenic

In Arthurian legend Corbenic is the castle of the Grail.

Carreg Samson Cromlech

This cromlech is situated somewhere in Pembrokeshire, Wales.

Aberwystyth

I had a lot of happy times in Aber during the 90's

A Ruritanian Tragedy

I had this dream about a princess who committed suicide by drowning.

A Message From The Sun

I had this dream about an Apollo-like youth who came out of the sea and gave me a message from the sun.
The actual message was so ridiculous, I won't repeat it here!

A Man OF Kent At The Man Of Kent

The Man of Kent referred to is my father who spent a lot of time at a pub of this name.
